Problem: Windows logon issues after installing 07-2023 Microsoft updates

Update 2023-07-19: Updated packages have been released. As UCS 5.0-3 and 5.0-4 share the same errata level package, take note which erratalevel should be installed at minimum, so that the problem is fixed. You can check your system’s erratalevel with univention-app info

UCS 5.0-4: Fixed with erratalevel 747 Security and bugfix errata for Univention Corporate Server
UCS 5.0-3: Fixed with erratalevel 748 Security and bugfix errata for Univention Corporate Server
UCS 4.4-9: Fixed with erratalevel 1441 Security and bugfix errata for Univention Corporate Server

Update 2023-07-18: We have built and tested updated packages and will release the fixes developed by the Samba Team on Wednesday, 2023-07-19. Microsoft promised to update its documentation this week, too.

Problem:

We and the Samba Team received reports that the following Micosoft updates cause logon problems:

  • 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

  • 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 (depending on Windows Version, for example KB5028168 or KB5028166)

  • 2023-07 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Embedded 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB5028228)

Solution:

Install the updated packages, as mentioned above.

The Samba-Team investigated the issue with Microsoft.
If the UCS updates cannot be installed, the only known workaround is to uninstall the Windows updates mentioned above.
