Univention Domain Join Assistant released and UCC discontinued

The new Univention Domain Join Assistant for Univention Corporate Server (UCS) has been released. With the new tool, administrators can integrate Ubuntu computers into a UCS domain without any additional manual configuration effort. Thanks to this, all users can log in directly to their Ubuntu desktop using their usual domain accounts. With this automation, we want to make it much easier for administrators to manage Ubuntu clients on the network. Thanks to Kerberos SAML integration, organizations that already use UCS version 4.3, which was released a few weeks ago, can now offer their users single sign-on for the Ubuntu clients.

Please note that the new Univention Domain Join Assistant will also replace the previous Univention Corporate Client (UCC), which we will discontinue. However, customers with a maintenance contract for Univention Corporate Client will receive UCC updates until April 30, 2021.

The discontinuation has no effect on existing installations. All systems can be used and will receive security updates during the running maintenance period. For UCC there will be no new features, no new release based on Ubuntu 18.04 and no update for the next UCS release. The rollout of Ubuntu systems and their pre-configuration can be done with client management solutions such as opsi or m23 from the Univention App Center.

We want to give all UCS users the possibility to easily integrate notebooks and PCs with standard Ubuntu into their UCS domains, thus keeping the maintenance effort as low as possible. The new Domain Join Assistant will be of great help for this.
