I’m currently using UCS with Kopano. As Kopano reached EOL on the UCS-platform (a fact not to well comunicated, Kopano still available for new installs on 5.0-10), I was looking into alternatives.
Maybe OX? Now what a surprise, OX suite is not available on my test install of 5.2-2. Forum tells me, testing is under way, continued support not sure (maybe complete move to kubernetes).
What the …? Is there ANY stable groupware for UCS? Or is everything rather unsure, EOL,…
Egroupware is no true alternative for me (web GUI looking crappy, setup rather erroneous).
Is there a future for UCS as an all-in-one platform?
Or does this rather strange move of pinning identity management right on top of everything (nubus) reflect the new development goal? UCS just for that? I was rather confused, from the outside it looks like UCS became nubus, but then there is still UCS in the downloads… why a separate brand just to manage identities?
I don’t get it. People don’t get it either: take a look at your forums, the “nubus” section is practically empty. Every question goes into the normal UCS-forum. Nobody seems to care about the nubus brand non-sense. Maybe just cut the “nubus” crap und return to old values: The all-in-one, easy to set up platform for a lot of nice apps… ideally not all of them EOL or unavailable on current versions of UCS.
Real question: What groupware do I use on UCS to have a reliable future and to avoid migrating again in 2026?
It seems you’ve been here a while and you read few posts.
This issue was raised at least a couple of times now and the answer will probably be the same in your case.
Don’t rely on integrated apps when you can have standalone installations in your system. Things like Nextcloud, OX or others will happily link with UCS LDAP and Keycloak, but you get reliable updates from the vendors direct. Worst case, use docker capability within UCS and run your own containers.
UCS serves as a great user/device manager, environment core element, but expecting all the bells and whistles that once were available is unrealistic at best.
Personally, I don’t get the nubus bit, but then we don’t use K8s at all. Maybe there’s enough market interest for UCS to offer the product, who knows.
To sum this up, I’ll use line from this year’s Eurovision Song Contest… “No stresso, no stresso, no need to be depresso”
OK, sorry for re-asking. I obviously didn’t know what to search for, normally I would check existing threads first.
Thanks for your very comprehensive and enlightening answer, I’ll try go down this path then. Especially for trying different groupware packages it would come in quite handy to have them as installable apps… would considerably shorten the process… but of course I can get them one by one from the vendor, if that’s the idea. Thanks for your considerations!
