You can now test the alpha version of UCS 5.3. Both new installations and updates from UCS 5.2-6 are possible.
For evaluation only
The alpha release is not covered by support. It is meant for testing and evaluation: apps, software compatibility, your own integrations.
Any machine that has run 5.3 Alpha must be considered unsupported and to-be-discarded. We will not provide a package update path from the alpha, not to a potential beta, and not to the final UCS 5.3 release. A reinstallation will be required.
Do not use a production domain. Test in a separate, disposable domain.
Installing from scratch
Use the alpha ISO image and follow univention-system-setup as usual:
https://updates.software-univention.de/download/ucs-cds/ucs5.3-0-alpha-1/
Updating from UCS 5.2-6
Prerequisite: the system must be fully up to date with UCS 5.2-6 errata556 or newer at the time of writing.
ucr set repository/online/server='https://updates-test.software-univention.de' \
repository/online/verify='no'
univention-upgrade
univention-upgrade will then offer the update to 5.3-0. The system stays pointed at the testing mirror afterwards.
What to expect
- The testing mirror is updated frequently. At any given moment some development version of a package may be broken and the update may not complete. We catch most of these in our test infrastructure, but if a problem persists, let us know.
- Not all apps are available for 5.3 yet.
- Alpha systems warn you at login, on the console and over SSH.
