It seems like the people of the NC-Univention-App Team asked Univention for a release of the ready made NC 29 on Jan 31. Still there is no NC 29 in the UCS app catalog, but NC 28 is EOL since 12/12/2024.
@univention: Any reason why?

Thanks for the question, but it doesn’t really matter whether the version is EOL or not as most minor updates are not provided anyway. So at best you can only speak of very limited maintenance. Regular updates would be great in this respect.
I would also like to know what the reason is for the update to 29, it could have something to do with the lack of keycloak support.
However, there has been a pattern for years: updates are not available for ages, then a merge request is opened and then nothing happens for months. They promise that the next major release will come soon, but unfortunately nothing changes.
My guess is that there are either so few paying customers that reasonable support is unattractive for Nextcloud GmbH or that the paying customers still have some kind of update blocker, so that the app regularly lags behind several major releases.
Yes, now the mobile apps also indicate that the server version is no longer supported… great!
Hi all,
For exactly this reason, we use a stand alone NC. Relaying on an app that’s forming part of the system but is actually maintained by others is risky.
Many of you will run UCS on proxmox, just make a new container and install NC as a standalone instance.
Univention even suggests this as a feasible option.
Yes, there’s more work with initial setup (webserver, storage, database, certs etc) but once you’re done, you are in charge and can run the even the beta NC if you like.
The update just has been released. Thank you, @univention !
@SirTux : My impression is that the people at Nextcloud GmbH always respond quickly and in a friendly manner on GitHub after receiving information about the version status of the Univention app. I have also found Nextcloud support to be courteous, regardless of the type of support license. The fact that the version status is always an older (but usually still supported) version is, in my opinion, a perfectly acceptable strategy for a production system.
Of course, you can disagree in this respect. On the other hand, we have a relatively large Nextcloud instance at work and are on the latest version branch relatively quickly without any disadvantages. In this respect, I think it’s a shame that my private instance is lagging so far behind.
But I’ve been wondering for some time whether the AppCenter was really the big hit in the end. As @dzidek23 says, you are very dependent on the app manufacturer for updates. In addition, the setup no longer scales depending on the number of users. Having your own installation is indeed much more flexible.
Just my 2 cents.
Did you install Nextcloud 3.31.0 on your mobile device?
It seems to be buggy:
I downgraded to 3.30.8 from F-Droid and the Android app works fine again now.
The system requirements still are:
Requirements as witten in Google Play and F-Droid:
Minimum: NC 18 Server, Android 7.1 Nougat
even for version 3.31.0 - so there seems to be a bug within the app.
