Can “Basic Authentication” be used with the Univention Office 365 Connector to authenticate against IMAP?
Answer
One of the purposes of a “SSO” solution is to keep the passwords stored in a safe place and not to have a need of exchanging them. Authentication is does through trusts and certificates. So the password never leaves the server where it is stored and is never send to a different server.
As IMAP requires the transfer of the password the Office365 app does not support the “Basic Authentication” mode and therefore can not be used to authenticate through IMAP.
