Proper config of master and backup server

Hello,
Can anyone point to a full detail configuration of a Master and a BackUp server when the master goes down? . This should involve , ldap , dovecot and mysql replications.

thanks,

Hi,

just to make it clear: You are not asking about a failover scenario?

Althought the names might sound like UCS offers failover this is not the case.

If the master goes down you have a problem! “backup” means in terms of UCS there is no data lost and services can be brought back quickly (as last ressort promote the backup to master).

To archive this goal make sure your backup and master have always the same apps and software packages installed and are on the same UCS version. That’s all it needs.

Hi Christian,
I am talking about failover scenario. An scenario where Slave has replicas of LDAP, DOVECOT and MYSQL ( kind of a mirror server).

Hi,

this will not work as you expected. Sorry.
Even if UCS could do this: How will you make the mail directories failover-safe? Du you have a share storage which is independent from both UCS?

We can discuss here in details but in the end it is not worth to do so: You will not be able to realize a failover scenario with UCS out-of-the-box. Nor with the apps installed. You will be able to install the same apps (and you should!) on both servers but they will not be able to share the same data nor have a channel to know when the service on the other host dies.

Thanks Christian,

Service checks usually happen with external devices that monitor the service, load, space ... etc ( F5 is one of them, not the only). For the effects is just one APP ( OX over Univention)
