Overview
This article describes the behavior of team deactivation and reactivation in UCS when using the M365 Connector, particularly regarding the synchronization with Microsoft Entra (Azure AD).
Background
A recent patch addressed an issue where teams could not be deactivated and reactivated after creation. This article clarifies the technical processes involved in these operations.
Deactivation and Reactivation Process
What Happens During Deactivation/Reactivation
When a team (or Microsoft 365 group) is deactivated or reactivated in UCS, a soft delete process is triggered in Microsoft Entra:
During Deactivation:
- The group is marked as soft-deleted in Entra
- The group enters a temporary deleted state
- The group can be restored within 30 days
During Reactivation:
According to Microsoft’s process, the following components are restored:
- The group itself
- The email address
- The SharePoint site
- The OneNote notebook
- Associated plans
- Original group members and owners are reassigned
- The team reappears in the Microsoft Teams application
Note: Full restoration of all content (such as SharePoint files) may take up to 24 hours.
Important Information
Known Considerations
- Users should allow up to 24 hours for complete content synchronization after reactivation
- The soft-delete mechanism provides a 30-day recovery window
- All original members and permissions are automatically restored upon reactivation
