Nextcloud join script does not work

There is a similar error reported in German, but my German knowledge is too rusty to take on the challenge to reply there.

Essentially I also tried to add nextcloud to my UCS and could not make the join script to complete.
I tried the solution offered in the other thread but did not help for me.
I also manually installed the missing univention-ldap-overlay-memberof deb but it did not help.
To confirm that there is nothing wrong with my server, just the package is the issue, I installed a fresh UCS server in a virtual environment and then added nextcloud as the only package. The join script did not complete there either.

that’s the crucial point, I bet, unfortunately we don’t know what exactly is wrong here. It’s the curl call that is supposed to configure the LDAP config.

@lleo can you do following in a shell on the machine were you want to install nextcloud on do following?

eval "$(ucr shell)" 
echo "https://${hostname}.${domainname}/nextcloud"

the first command just initializes ucr variables, the second command composes the destination url where nextcloud can be reached. The malformed URL seems to come from the next curl usage, but it would be good to have this covered nevertheless.

The other thing, does /var/lib/univention-appcenter/apps/nextcloud/conf/ldap-config-id exist (also on the machine where Nextcloud is supposed to be installed)? I am not sure whether it is removed after the failed joinscript though, I believe it stays.

This looks all how it should. The next candidate is that the configuration of the LDAP backend failed, perhaps due to a problematic data string, despite urlEncoding the values. Now this is a bit cumbersome to reproduce… but in the coming does 12.0.4 should be available (I just requested to publish it to the store).

I added some optional debug output for the curl calls. When it is available, can you please enable the debug mode first via ucr set nextcloud/ucs/debug=1 and subsequently perform an install? Then, watch the /var/log/univention/join.log for “curl failed with error”. It will have the error number (6 in this case) and the parameters appended. Please post the whole error message, but please make sure to remove/obfuscate sensitive data prior to posting (special characters are of interest and should be mentioned, please)! Most importantly the value for ldapAgentPassword.

Thanks, I tried to find out more in my test environment why curl fails, by performing the commands one by one manually from the join script to no avail.

In the meantime version 12.0.4 is still not come out, so assume other issues may have been identified.

I tried to install nextcloud again on a fully updated UCS that has kopano apps and letsencrypt packages installed.
The join script log did not have a lot of information, even after setting the nextcloud/ucs/debug=1 key.

Not sure if you expected the output as I replied earlier above, but I went on and replaced in the nextcloud join script the host entry with the ucs ip address and the script in verbose mode fails with the following error.

Obviously in shell in which I ran

root@ucs:~# univention-run-join-scripts --force --run-scripts 50nextcloud.inst

the ip address and the dns of ucs.example.net resolves correctly, as reported previously even after eval “$(ucr shell)”

If I however start a shell to the docker environment with
root@ucs:~# univention-app shell nextcloud
there is no name resolution of any and no network commands work.

It is not easy but have to admit that I made a mistake that caused nextcloud to not install correctly,
And the issue was the DNS resolution. After fixed this, install and join script working correctly.

I have a similar probelm as you did probably but I could not understand waht is it ? So could you help me that what wrong with DNS ?

I have had the same problem yesterday and was able to solve it.

It seems to be related to Let’s Encrypt App from the App Center. I uninstalled Let’s Encrypt from that server and ran the Nextcloud installation. Then the join script worked without problems and all config settings in Nextcloud (like LDAP settings and admin login) were set correctly.
Afterwards, I re-installed Let’s Encrypt, set up the domains in it and now everything is fine.
