How to Join UCS server for Windows Server 2016 Domain

Hi!

I would like to install my first UCS server and I would like to join for the existing Windows Server 2016 Domain as member server or backup domain controller.
I have the following error message:
“The UCS version of the domain you are trying to join (4.3-2) is lower than the local one (4.3-3). The constellation is not supported”

Is it a working scenario?

hi,

you can’t join ucs server to windows ad domain - you’re only able to do ad domain migration from ms server to ucs server - but have to power down ms ad dc afterwards. you can join ms server 2016 as domain member to ucs samba ad but not as dc only as member server.

that is not correct or completely, see at https://www.univention.com/products/ucs/functions/active-directory-connection/

This means that a direct join is not possible, but a functionally similar AD connection to MS AD is possible.

you just need this Univention App: https://www.univention.com/products/univention-app-center/app-catalog/adconnector/

But it depends on your desired use case, what / how to use UCS with or without MS server provided AD.

For MS -> UCS migration scenario only there is an extra https://www.univention.de/produkte/ucs/funktionen/active-directory-takeover/
