Default NTP server

I’m trying to confirm some things here regarding time settings for the domain as I have one Windows 7 VM that keeps losing its time sync.

As I understand it, the UCS Domain Controller acts as the NTP master for the domain, but by default it does not synchronise to any external NTP server?

My gateway router is syncing to an internet NTP server - I can force my Domain Controller to use this as its source by editing the ‘timeserver’ UCR variable - correct?

Absolutely correct. Please also see the manual:

Usually the master domain controller functions as the time server of a domain. With the Univention Configuration Registry variables timeserver, timeserver2 and timeserver3 external NTP servers can be included as time sources.

how to force the DC to use the external sources? Is there any interval to set when the external timeservers are used?
