I have a dumb question
Do I need Software component: Active Directory-compatible Domain Controler or Active Directory Connection to set up DC Backup?
Thanks for answer.

Hey,
That depends Basically if you’re running an AD domain via Samba4, you really should install the AD-compatible Domain Controller app on all your DC Backups, too. If you run a pure OpenLDAP domain, then obviously you don’t need that package.
The whole purpose of a DC Backup is to be able to act as a replacement for a DC Master that is irrevocably lost (e.g. due to hard drive failure). Of course your DC Backup will have to provide the same services your DC Master provided in order to fulfill that role.
If you don’t need such a standby device, the role DC Backup is the wrong one for the server in the first place. DC Slave or Memberserver might be better suited.

So, then…
If I just want to have mail server, print server, etc. on second machine I just need DC Slave and I shouldn’t install AD-compatible Domain Controller? I did so but it seems it’s something wrong. I do have DC2 as Domain Controller Slave in Computer (via UCS on DC Master) tab but it’s not in Domain Controllers OU in Computers and Users Active Directory Service.
Thanks for info.
