Clamd high memory usage

Hello,
I am running UCS as a mail server solution on an vserver with 4GB RAM for a test with no traffic.
Unfortunatly clamd uses a very high amount of ram with about 520MB (13%) .

USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
clamav 19767 0.0 13.3 814940 541176 ? Ssl Okt04 8:55 /usr/sbin/clamd --foreground=true

I have it running on an other identical server with kolab in production with less than 2%
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
amavis 164 0.0 1.2 604960 58348 ? Ssl Sep24 1:27 /usr/sbin/clamd -c /etc/clamd.d/amavisd.conf --foreground=yes

I tried to find the differences in configuration but had no success so far.
So can anyone confirm this behavior or has an idea where to change configuration to free up some ram?

Thanks
DC

Hey,

such memory usage from clamd isn’t all that unusual as it has to hold all signatures in memory during operation. If you search around the web you’ll find similar topics with similar numbers. There’s not really anything you can do to reduce the memory usage and continue using it.

I don’t know why memory usage is so low on your Kolab server. I’d rather see that as a warning sign that it might not have all current signatures loaded.

Kind regards,
mosu
