26univention-samba.inst FAILED for memberserver in brand new 4.4 setup

Hello UCS,
I just installed a brand new DC with the last 4.4 iso, everything works perfectly for the DC.
I’m trying to add a memberserver to do a dedicated File server, but when it joins the domain, a got this error in the join.log :

I can see the computer in the DC “computers” list, but still I guess the fileserver isn’t enough integrated to the domaine because of this failure.
I already checked Requirements for a successful join into the UCS domain and everything is OK.

Maybe it’s a 4.4 related bug ? Or a PEBKAC ?

Plase do post the join.log contents here. It doesn’t have to be as an attachment: simply paste its content into the post and surround it by two lines consisting solely of three backticks:

That’s the “code formatting” syntax which prevents the board from interpreting content of the log as Markdown.

Is your DC Master actually running the “Active Directory compatible domain controller” app? If not, you cannot run Samba on a memberserver without running it on your DC Master, too.

Thanks for this answer, I didn’t installed the “Active Directory compatible domain controller” because I though it wasn’t needed for this kind of simple role (fileserver).
So I installed it on my DC, then I rerun a full install of UCS on my file server, now I select “Join into an existing Microsoft Active Directory domain” (because existing UCS domain doesn’t work).
Then I select “Member server”, and then I don’t have the “File server” role choice in the list. I’ve got the “Software installation monitor” role instead.

What did I skip ?

“Join into an existing Microsoft Active Directory domain” is definitely wrong. That’s only used for joining into an AD that’s run by Windows AD DCs.

For your situation with a UCS DC you must join a UCS domain. If the installer doesn’t offer that, your DNS settings are wrong. On your new server you must configure your UCS DC Master to be the primary DNS server — NOT something else (e.g. your router or Google or whatever).

Hum, that’s strange, because until now, UCS domain was detected perfectly, and only since I installed the "Active Directory compatible domain controller” on the DC, the UCS setup of the new server isn’t able to find a UCS domain through the DNS (which is my DC IP), but only to find an AD domain.

Edit : I’m reinstalling the DC directly with those roles :

CUPS
Nagios
Software installation monitor
AD compatible Domain Controller
Self Service

Then I’ll retry to join with the fileserver, and will tell you.

So after the reinstallation of the DC with all those roles, I was able to join the UCS domain and use File Server role on the new File server, perfect
I don’t know which kind of problems I had on the previous installation, but now everything is fine.
