we would use UCS only as file server and have the following problem:
The server is joined in our MAIN AD domain and has some shares, but the shares should also be used by our subdomain AUSTRIA, which doesn’t work no matter what I try, so I wonder if it’s generally possible.
We would prefer to manage the permissions via Windows “Computer Management” and have already added several permissions, but every time we connect from the AUSTRIA domain we get a popup with “Enter network credentials”.
I tried with an admin-User from the subdomain which is in the MAIN Domain-Admin-Group too.
I am unsure what you mean with “subdomain”. Is it a different AD domain, too?
If this is the case you will have not luck. UCS can join an existing domain as a member server- which is your setup. But Samba member servers can only “automatically” use domain account and can not map external accounts to domain accounts so they will always have to enter their credentials.
Main domain is likely company.local
Child domain is likely austria.company.local
UCS Server is in the Main Domain, my user admin.xyz is Domain Admin in the child domain, but in the “Domain Admins” group from the main domain too. This user should have Full Access on the UCS share, but it doesn’t work.
The same process works on our Netapp vFiler which is to be replaced with UCS due to storage change.
No, I do not have access even if I enter the correct credentials.
The process on the Netapp: Create a share on Netapp - open Computer Management on a Windows Computer and connect to the vFiler - manage Access Rights on the Share. Should be possible on UCS too in my opinion.
