Difference between univention-samba, univention-samba4 and univention-samba-slave-pdc

Like the topic title says…

Thanks

Hey,

  • univention-samba4 is the UCS integration package that sets up and configures Samba as an Active Directory domain controller.
  • univention-samba is the UCS integration package that sets up and configures Samba as a member server without domain controller functionality.
  • univention-samba-slave-pdc is an empty meta package pulling in the univention-samba package, meaning the member server/non-domain controller variant. I’m actually not sure why the package has -pdc in its name, to be honest.

@Moritz_Bunkus i’m asking… because i’m getting a lot of problems to add a new slave server into my “ucs active directory domain”

Normally i install the server as ucs slave, when finished

  • ucr set samba4/role=‘DC’
  • univention-install univention-samba4
  • run the join scripts again.

A few months back it works… now i’m trying since the last couple of days but always get a fault server…

  • cpu high usage
  • pkgdb issues
  • web gui errors

I don’t know what can i do more… so i start think maybe something in tha packages change and should install the univention-samba4 … but from what you say i think that i still the right steps to do…

Thanks
