Is there a built in backup feature of the appliance, also would Univention still support the appliance if we install our own backup solution called Commvault.

Hello,
there is no “build-in” backup solution in UCS (you may want to have a look at “Bareos Backup”, provided via App Center).
Of cause we would support UCS and it’s features in line with our commercial support offers even if you have additional software installed. However you should make sure that the installation of Commvault does not change/modify essential system packages.
